autumn equinox supercharged apple crisp

to celebrate the Autumn Equinox and welcome in the darker, cozy, introspective months of the year, we want to share with you one of our favourite family recipes.

recipe by: The Gut Lab

serves 6-8 people

base:

9 apples of your choice

1 Tbsp lucuma powder

topping:

1 cup gf organic oats

3/4-1 cup pecans (sub walnuts/almonds/more oats)

1/2 cup grass fed butter/ghee/coconut oil

1/2 cup honey

1 Tbsp lucuma powder

1 Tbsp maca powder

2-3 tsp cinnamon powder

1/2 tsp ginger powder

2 tsps her potion

pinch himalayan salt

method:

  1. peel, quarter + thinly slice apples

  2. place in a shallow glass baking dish

  3. toss in lucuma with your hands

  4. in a bowl mix until smooth your butter/coconut oil with honey + powders

  5. roughly chop pecans

  6. mix in pecans + oats with your hands + be sure to lick your fingers

  7. gently press the apples down in your dish + evenly distribute the topping

  8. bake at 325 until can easily poke a fork through the apples

  9. broil topping for a couple minutes until golden brown. pro tip: make sure to watch it closely so you don’t burn it like I did.

  10. serve warm in a bowl with coconut whip cream, coconut ice-cream, or with a little sprinkle of cinnamon!
