what is an adaptogen?

the term “adaptogen” was first coined in 1947 by the Russian scientist, N.V. Lazarev as a substance that shows a nonspecific enhancement of our body’s innate ability to resist any stressor- whether the stress we’re experiencing be from lack of sleep, environmental toxins (all of us!), taking on too much in our every day lives (the society we live in), + even our beauty/hygiene regime or what we consume on a daily basis (reading ingredient labels has never been so important!).

used in Traditional Chinese + Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, adaptogenic substances have been shown to allow our body to stay within it’s naturally harmonious state of being by helping us to gently adapt according to our own body’s individual needs. they’re known to offer support + modulate our ever bombarded immune + adrenal system aiding us in balancing the persistent stress + fatigue most of us know all too well. 

adaptogens have been used to help with mental alertness + clarity, + energy all the while calming the system at the very same time.

what is a superfood?

we love good food, that’s no secret- but what gives a some foods that “super-food” status? a SUPER food doesn’t exactly come with a flashy costume as you may imagine, though we sometimes like to picture our goji berries wearing teeny tiny capes!

a food that has been deemed as super is one that is especially dense in vital nutrients, + packs a powerful punch when it comes to your health + wellness. some are filled to the brim of vitamins +/or minerals, antioxidants, healthy fats or enzymes while others are shown to up the anti when faced with preventing or healing specific conditions or dis-eases that manifest in our body.

at The Gut Lab, we’ve made our superfoods simple so they fit easily into any lifestyle, any schedule, wherever life may find you - so you’re able to supercharge every meal, snack or drink! 


why organic?

this is a term that is getting some real hype these days + with good reason. we care about what you put in your body, + we want to help support your (great!) health today + always, which is why all of the herbs + superfoods we use are certified organic.

we believe whole heartedly that what we put in (and on!) our body should not be in any way genetically engineered/modified, grown with the use of anything synthetic such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or dyes or processed using industrial solvents.

not only is this beneficial for our health as a consumer, but it also takes in to consideration the health of our farmer + our planet too!

that’s what we like to call a win-win-win!


what are potions?

The Gut Lab potions are a blend of 6-8 organic powdered herbs, superfoods and mushroom extract powders created to supercharge your smoothies, shakes, soups, salad dressings, sauces, raw desserts + elixirs, or sprinkle in an oatmeal, chia seed pudding + favourite veggie dish (so, basically everything + anything)! 

we encourage you to get creative with your food + your sprinkling!

what are tocos? 

our short form for tocotrienols. {or tacos - depending on how quickly you read over. tacos are always delicious right? well, so are these.}

creamy when blended and slightly sweet to taste, tocos are part of the vitamin e family, and may be associated with cardiovascular wellness.

we like to mix a little with our coffee, add a scoop to our smoothies, mix in with a nourishing cosmic hot cacao or sunshine golden mylk, and sometimes flavour up a granola or oatmeal in the early hours of the morning.
